Autumn Wedding Cake Guide Autumn is one of the most popular times for weddings. Clear blue skies, brilliant foliage, and balmy afternoons make for a wonderful season for celebrations.  Here are some pointers to help you plan your fall wedding: Color choices:  A traditional choice is to match cake accents to the color of bridesmaids' gowns.  However, fall is an especially good time to use complementary colors.  Burnt orange, deep purple, sage green, and rich shades of gold and copper all blend together beautifully, and can be carried out in your cake's design. Flavor combinations:  Our butter vanilla (white) cake is very popular for weddings, but consider selecting one tier of carrot cake or apple spice cake to bring in some of the rich flavors of harvest.  See our cake flavor list for more ideas. Fillings: are also a good way to bring in a taste of autumn's bounty.  Our brandied apricot walnut fillings infuses the whole cake with a rich flavor.  Over a dozen different fillings are available for wedding cakes. Icings: Good choices for fall weddings include butter-cream icing in ivory or a natural soft white color.  Mocha icing gives a warm glow to any cake, and rolled fondant icing can be marbleized to give a subtle hint of color to a tiered cake.  Pure white is always a classic choice as well. Flowers: are an area to make a wedding cake very special.  One of our most popular designs is to use fresh flowers between the tiers of our wedding cakes.  We are happy to discuss with you the different looks that fresh flowers or hand-made sugar flowers provide.  Styles: Wedding cakes today reflect a range of styles: timeless and traditional, elegant and classic, sweet and romantic, and dramatic and majestic.  Round, square, or oval shapes all make good choices.  Another idea is to combine shapes, such as a square base with round cakes on top. Budget-friendly ideas: Choose seasonally: For a fall wedding, using in-season flowers (like fresh chrysanthemums) is a great way to decorate.  At this time of year, grapevine wreaths, baskets of fruit, and miniature gourds are all very affordable, and can arranged either formally or informally to suit the occasion. Don't hide the cake: A wedding cake is one of the most significant decorations for a hall or reception room -- work with your caterer to be sure the cake table is in a prominent position (but away from speakers or the dance floor), so the cake serves as both a beautiful piece of custom-made art, and as a delicious end to your wedding banquet. Compare designs: Since all of our our sugar-art is made by hand, some options may be less costly than others.  We always are happy to discuss price options with you, and we do not charge extra for having tiers with different cake flavors.
