New people and new events

I'd like to announce my new fall semester assistant and intern, Kasey.

Kasey is studying for a degree in Culinary Arts, and has a special interest in cake design and baking.

Welcome, Kasey!

Also, it was a pleasure to meet everyone yesterday at the Bridal Show at the Albany Best Western.  I will also be at these two upcoming events:

Saturday, September 26: I will be at Boscov's (Colonie Center) as part of their VIP-Bridal Special Event, from 12:00 to 3:30.  I will be on the second level, near the wedding registry department.  Click here for directions.

I will have free cake samples for you to taste, and be available to answer questions about wedding cake design and flavor selection.

Also, Sunday, October 11: we will be at the Brunswick Small Business Expo from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.  We will have our fall harvest of specialty preserves for sale.  Click here for directions.

They are all free admission, and open to the public.

time for some poetry...

To Autumn (excerpt)
John Keats (1795-1821)

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
  Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run.

Just peachy...

The mornings are growing cooler, so we sliced up a few fresh peaches to make a delicious breakfast topping, which is a wonderful complement to waffles, oatmeal, or pancakes.  It also makes a great topping for vanilla ice cream.

Peach Breakfast Topper (serves 4):

  • 4 Tablespoons  butter
  • 4 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • one large ripe peach, sliced
  • dash cinnamon

  • Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat
  • When butter begins to bubble, stir in sugar.
  • Cook 1 minute over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • Turn heat to low, and add peaches and cinnamon.
  • Let peaches simmer gently for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Spoon over oatmeal, pancakes, or waffles.
  • Enjoy!
